Charles Nabors is flourishing in his new living environment at Glamorgan's Westview Town Suites
Charles Nabors has dedicated much of his 71 years to the great outdoors. Nabors cultivated a rich career that blends mechanical engineering, a passion for science and a commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability — all while managing a ranch just outside Bragg Creek.
That active lifestyle initially made his transition to a supportive living environment difficult.
His move to a home at Silvera for Seniors’ 92-unit Westview Town Suites in Calgary’s southwest community of Glamorgan, came at the encouragement of his daughter. Recognizing the strain Charles and his wife Susan were under, with her declining health and his long-standing neurological issues, his daughter suggested WTS.
“I wasn’t too keen on the idea at first,” Charles admits. “I thought it was just for older adults, but I had to confront the reality — I’m an older adult too.”
At WTS, Charles has discovered not a loss of independence but a vibrant community where he can forge friendships, participate in activities like yoga and the residence’s cultural Explore program, enjoy delicious meals he doesn’t have to cook and socialize with fellow residents during happy hours. These experiences keep him engaged and motivated to set new personal goals.
Charles has flourished in his new living environment, particularly when things like on-site medical support and transportation services allow him to focus on his scientific interests.
“I can work on my ideas without worrying about household chores,” he says, acknowledging the assistance he receives from WTS’ supportive staff.
WTS offers affordable market-rent studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites starting at $3,600 per month. That monthly rent includes three chef-inspired meals daily, weekly housekeeping and organized outings to events and activities. Residents can enjoy on-site lifestyle, leisure and learning opportunities such as lectures, art classes and exercise sessions, along with laundry facilities available on each floor.
There is also a Lifeline emergency call system in each unit, with connection to the 24/7 staff on-site.
For those considering a move to a residence like WTS, Charles offers this piece of wisdom: “Be prepared to let go of past attachments and embrace the next phase of life. Keep setting goals and looking forward.”
