40 Years of Connection: Celebrating Seniors' Week at Westview Town Suites

At Westview Town Suites by Silvera, we believe that every day is an opportunity to celebrate the wisdom, vibrance, and contributions of older adults in our community. However, there is one week a year where the whole province joins us in that celebration: Alberta Seniors' Week.

Why We Celebrate

Recognized annually during the first full week of June, Alberta Seniors’ Week is a time to show appreciation for the seniors who have built our communities, volunteered their time, and who continue to inspire us daily. Through supporting family members, mentoring younger generations or participating in local volunteerism, the impact of seniors in Alberta is immeasurable.

This year is the 40th anniversary of Seniors’ Week, as it was established in 1986 inspired by the dedicated advocacy of Alice Modin, who envisioned a province-wide day to recognize older adults.

Westview Town Suites’ Commitment

Westview Town Suites will not only celebrate our residents during Alberta Seniors’ Week; we celebrate them all year round. The residents here are builders, innovators, educators and community leaders who have helped shaped Calgary and Alberta into the thriving places they are today, and we are proud that they are a part of our community.

Their stories inspire us, their wisdom guides us, and their ongoing energy enlivens our community spaces every single day.  We support their ongoing contributions by focusing on their physical, cognitive and social well-being. Westview Town Suites residents enjoy:

  • Specialized Fitness Programs: Whether its yoga or strength training class, physical activity is promoted and available to all our residents.
  • Social Spaces: The residents are often gathering in the atrium for a morning coffee, a game of cards or sharing a chef-inspired meal. Westview’s social committee also plans special events both inside, and outside the community.
  • Creativity Centres: The on-site creative studio is used by artists and makers to conjure up new masterpieces. The community also proudly showcases the residents’ talents by hosting dedicated art exhibitions, gallery displays, and live musical performances.
  • Volunteering: A vibrant culture of volunteering is driven by the resident-led social committee. From running the in-house large-print library and acting as newcomers’ ambassadors, to planning events inside and outside the community, the residents have meaningful opportunities to give back right where they live.
  • Activities and Programming: Through our specialized Life, Learning and Leisure programs, our residents can pursue new passions and continue to build deep connections with their communities. Plus, Westview’s own van and driver take the residents on six scheduled outings weekly.

The best part about being a resident at Westview Town Suites is choice: What fits one resident may not be for another. Providing options encourages everyone to feel happy, active, and connected.
